New spy shots have been captured while the car was on test. It shows that 2014 model of Tata Nano will feature new bumper design on the front and rear. Interiors of new Nano too have been spied.
Expected to be launched in 2014, new Nano will be offered in both, diesel and petrol powered variants. For the petrol variant, it will continue to feature the same 624 cc two cylinder engine generating 38 PS, which is present in current Nano. This engine will be a little refined, so as to offer better performance. As far as diesel unit is concerned, it is an all new engine. It will be a 800 cc three cylinder mill, generating about 48PS. It will also be very efficient. Once launched, Nano diesel is expected to become the most fuel efficient car in India. The title currently lies with Honda Amaze diesel with 25.8 kmpl mileage.
Expected Launch: February 2014
Expected Price:2.40 – 3.25 lakhs
As far as design changes made to the exterior is concerned, 2014 Nano features a new bumper, whose lip is designed to give it a happy car look. The same design is carried on to the rear as well. Cost cutting is also applied as you can see front passenger side door missing side-view mirror. The chrome strips which were introduced in the 2013 model are missing, this could be because the version is still under work. Same goes with the interiors. There is hardly any change applied to the interiors. Instead this one shows interiors of the old Nano. In a more finished avatar, expect 2014 Nano to look like the 2013 Nano, which was revealed earlier this year.
Small car sales have always dominated the Indian auto industry. Introducing a diesel Nano will be an aggressive step forward from Tata Motors. But they will not be alone. Maruti Suzuki India too is planning a diesel engine of 800 cc. This will feature on their new small car, which is as of now codenamed YL7. It too will be launched in 2014. If you think whether these 800cc engines from Tata and Maruti have anything in common, then you are right. Engine management system has been developed by Bosch, for both of them!
