Audi India has launched the much awaited cut-price variant of the Q3, the Q3 S, at Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This new locally assembled model takes on the Mercedes Benz A-Class and the upcoming BMW 1-Series in the battle for the best entry-level premium car.
Available only with a diesel engine, the Q3 S comes in at Rs 24.99 lakh, around Rs 2.3 lakh less than the next least expensive 2-litre TFSI variant which costs 27.37 lakh. Audi has managed to bring down the price by making quite a few changes to both the power-train and the equipment list. The 2-litre diesel engine, for instance, has been detuned to produce 140PS of power and 320Nm of torque instead of 178PS and 380Nm produced in the standard Q3. Additionally, the Q3 S loses out on Audi’s famed Quattro all-wheel drive system and S-tronic automatic gearbox.
The detuned engine in the Q3 S is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox which sends power to just the front wheels. In terms of equipment, Audi has removed the daytime running LEDs and the panoramic sunroof from the standard features list. The Q3 S, nonetheless, is fairly feature rich with standard features including MMI infotainment system with Bluetooth, leather seats, cruise control, 18-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors and 6 airbags.
