Illusion and deception have conquered the minds and hearts of our youth. The major issue that our youth face is the lack of direction. They are derailed. They don’t know where they are going. They feel frustrated and dejected. They have boarded a ship without a compass in it. They feel they are drained off all the powers and energy.
The present day youth are everywhere. You see them in Educational Institutions, you see them at tuition centers, you see them roaming aimlessly on the streets, in public parks, at Snooker points, riding fast bikes and puffing and inhaling cigarettes in the corners of the city. Domestic and outdated Education system is another problem our youth face. In schools, the students usually are made to assimilate crude, outdated facts due to outdated curriculum and vomit out at the time of exams.
They lack the ability to question. They are nurtured in a domesticated system and lack creativity. They have become converges and slaves of our outdated education system. While in colleges and Universities, the true value of Education is lost. Today, youth take education as a means for ”employment”, i.e, to earn bread. Thousands of youth every year get their admission in Professional courses like BBA, MBA, B.Tech, MBBS, etc. with a fetish goal to get a degree in their hands for a well off ”Job” and a handsome ”salary”.
They treat education as a degree, as a key to employment while deprived off the basic aim of education. They take education just to settle and satisfy their basic physiological needs which is at the lowest hierarchy of needs. They don’t strive to become self-actualizes. If our youth are intellectually strong, they can raise their voice at any platform for any cause, whether social or political, and make a contribution in real sense. If our youth really want to contribute, they have to rise above the petty objectives and think pure and high.
Youth have always been caught between the deep waters and the devil fish. We see majority of our youth involved in drug addiction and other unlawful activities. This leads our society to demoralization which further have caused unemployment, conflicts, poverty, insecurity and despair which has done irreparable damage to their fragile psyche and personality. This damage has lead to depression among the youth which ultimately comes back as a demoralizing catalyst. Our youth have become victims of free floating anxieties and tensions.
They remain tense without assigning the reason thereof. Smoking has become a usual habit in youth. They at initial stage experiment with drugs and later get caught in it, which sucks their mental energy. Their decision making capacity gets destroyed. Most of the youth are becoming more and more anti-social day by day which is an indication of their psychologically disturbed mind. This also leads to Value erosion in our youth. They forget moral values, respect for parents and teachers is lost. They become socially and morally rejected.
Our youth are distancing themselves from religion. They rarely visit religious places or watch religious channels on TV, as a result lack the ability to differentiate between good and evil. They blindly follow Western culture without fully modernizing their thoughts and actions. If our youth will not ingrain social responsibility in themselves, then our future is at stake. Time has come when our youth have to be ready, infuse life in their dead bones, and stand up and build the nation. Youth is the promise. There is a lot of trust in our youth, they have to make the system work. Our youth need direction. They need motivation, ignition and awakening of spirit.
But the million dollar question is “Who is gonna light an extinguished lamp in our youth and continuously supply it with faith and knowledge?”
The answer lies in the deep rooted call in the youth itself.
